The Strong Building: Restoring a Beloit Icon for the Future

At Hendricks Commercial Properties, we believe in the power of preservation and progress. That belief is front and center in our latest downtown project: the thoughtful renovation of the Strong Building, one of Beloit’s most historically significant structures and a cornerstone of the city’s architectural identity. 

Built in 1929 and designed by noted Chicago architects Oman & Lilienthal, the Strong Building stands as Beloit’s premier example of Art Deco architecture. Its intricate terra cotta façade, reeded pilasters, and geometric detailing have made it a State Street landmark for nearly a century. 

Now, as part of our continued investment in the revitalization of downtown Beloit, the Strong Building is undergoing a comprehensive façade restoration, designed to protect its historic charm while enhancing its long-term vitality. 

PRESERVATION IN PROGRESS

Our partners at Staatz Restoration are leading the effort to bring the Strong Building’s façade back to life. This includes detailed repairs to the original terra cotta tilework and restoration of ornamental features that aren’t visible from the ground but are vital to maintaining the integrity of the structure. 

While we’re still in the early stages, key project milestones include: 

• Upper façade restoration continuing into late summer 

• Street-level enhancements to follow in the fall 

• Final refinements wrapping up ahead of the holiday season
