INDIANAPOLIS, IN. (December 12, 2025) - Hendricks Commercial Properties (HCP) today announced Traction Yards as the official name and brand for the transformational redevelopment of the former Circle Centre Mall in downtown Indianapolis. The new identity reflects a bold vision for the future of the site which reimagines the two-city-block property as a dynamic, mixed-use district designed to bring new energy, activity, and opportunity to the heart of the city.

Traction Yards represents a complete evolution of the longstanding mall structure, shifting from an enclosed retail model to an open-air urban neighborhood that blends retail, dining, entertainment, residential living, office space, and activated public plazas. The name pays tribute to Indianapolis’ industrial and rail heritage while signaling forward momentum and renewed vitality.

Traction Yards

“Traction Yards will be a destination that symbolizes movement, connection, and the next chapter of downtown Indianapolis,” said Rob Gerbitz, President and CEO of Hendricks Commercial Properties. “This brand captures the spirit of what we’re creating, which is a place where people want to be every day, not just during special events or conventions.”

Renderings showcase the vision for Traction Yards as an open, walkable street with expansive outdoor gathering areas designed to support live music, events, and community interaction. The redevelopment will be completed in multiple phases, with the first major phase targeted for 2029.

The redevelopment includes approximately:

  • 400,000 sq. ft. of retail, dining, and entertainment

  • 100,000 sq. ft. of office space

  • 300+ residential units

  • Significant public plazas and green space

  • A modernized, pedestrian-focused design that enhances connectivity and street-level activity

Construction is currently underway, with portions of the existing mall now closed to prepare for redevelopment. Tenants currently located inside Circle Centre Mall have been informed that the premises must be vacated by December 31, 2025, to accommodate the planned redevelopment. Exterior-facing businesses will continue to serve visitors during the transition.

“As construction activity increases, fully vacating the mall is an essential next step in the redevelopment process. We deeply appreciate the businesses that have been part of Circle Centre Mall’s story and thank them for their many contributions. We wish each of them success in their next chapter,” adds Gerbitz.
